Heartless mum sears daughters with hot knife

Kakamega, Kenya: A single mother of four allegedly pierced and seared her two daughters using a hot knife last night in Koramatangi estate, Kakamega.

The girls; Mariam Akhonya, 13, and Zuhura Were, eight, allegedly failed to perform household chores they had been assigned.

The Kakamega Jamia Mosque Madrassa pupils had belaboured walking styles and dark spots on their faces, which drew the attention of Isa Idi, a construction worker in the neighbourhood.

“I noticed Akhonya slept for long on the madrassa grounds. She also had dark and red spots on her face. She revealed to me that her mother had pierced her with a kitchen knife, then warmed it on fire before returning to scold her,” said Idi.

Were’s face was swollen and she had visible cuts on the back of her upper hands with red and dark spots.

A teary Akhonya said her mother, Rehema Amunabi, returned from work and started quarrelling them for not finishing house chores she had assigned them.

“Mum came back from work and started quarreling us for not placing clothes in order in a suitcase and even accused us of hunting. She warned we will regret, and when night fell, she picked a knife and pierced my thighs,” Says Akhonya.

She continues: “She instructed us to sit down on the floor as she warmed the knife on a stove, then scolded my face, breasts, thighs and private parts claiming I had brought a man to sleep in our house while she was away.”

Amunabi, a worker at a local supermarket, refused to pick our calls before her phone was turned off. She was not at her work place when The Standard on Sunday visited.
