Reginalda Wanyonyi : Women should engage in development instead of waiting for husbands to provide

Bungoma, Kenya: County Woman representative Reginalda Wanyonyi has challenged women to take up active roles as partners in development instead of waiting to be provided for by their husbands.

Ms Wanyonyi said women in the county are not applying for tenders to provide services that can change their fortunes and instead depend on men for their providence.

Speaking at Hotel Greenville in Bungoma town during a meeting organised by Federation of Women Lawyers – Kenya (Fida) in conjunction with her office, Wanyonyi urged women to stop shying away from jobs traditionally linked to men.

RISK TAKING

"If women want to be economically empowered they must take up projects considered for men. We can do what men can do," she said.

The meeting that brought together religious leaders, professional leaders, youth and women leaders addressed issues affecting the society like unemployment.

Fida senior legal officer, Jackline Ingutia, asked the Government to devolve Fida offices so that vices affecting society are addressed at county level.
