Two bodyguards involved in Makueni shooting disarmed, weapons taken for ballistic tests

CYRUS OMBATI

Kenya: Two bodyguards involved in Tuesday shooting at Makueni County Assembly have been disarmed.

Their guns and eight bullet heads have also been sent to CID headquarters for ballistic tests to establish whose weapons were used in the shooting incident. Also disarmed are five police officers who were present and are thought to have shot as the drama ensued.

Director of CID Ndegwa Muhoro said they want to establish the guns that were used in the fracas before taking further action.

He said preliminary findings indicate a misuse of guns.

"The weapons are being tested as part of our investigations into the incident. Obviously, there are signs of misuse of the weapons at large which we want to get concrete evidence," he said.

He added that Nyeri County head of CID Mohamed Amin is leading a team of senior detectives from Nairobi in investigating the incident.

"The era of such hooliganism is long gone and people need to know that things have changed," said Muhoro.

Six people were injured in the melee.
