Grief as Standard Four pupil kills his deskmate in Baringo

Baringo, Kenya: Residents of Ngambo location in Baringo South constituency are mourning the loss of a primary school pupil who was killed by his classmate.

Grief gripped a primary school in Marigat,Baringo County after a standard four pupil killed his deskmate by hitting him after an alleged fight over a wrist watch.

According to witnesses,the two boys were playing when a quarrel ensued between the two pupils of Sintaan Primary school leading to a fight,where a younger pupil was hit on the head dying on the spot.

A source close to the family revealed that Meshack Saninko aged 11, a standard four pupil from nearby Ngambo location was allegedly killed by his desk mate on Wednesday at around 4pm.

It is reported that the suspect aged 14 was overwhelmed by anger and picked a piece of stick hitting the deceased  hard at the back of the head leaving him for dead.

Area OCPD Otulia Kaunya said police have since arrested the suspected boy and is in police custody adding that he will soon appear in court to answer murder charges regardless of him being under 18.

"We have the suspect in our custody and will appear in court.The law is clear on murder,as long as a human being has ended another one's life,he should be charged,"said Kaunya.

He said as long as the child is above the age of eight and is of sound mind,he or she is deemed to have known what he or she is doing thus responsible for his actions.

The body of the deceased was however ferried to Kabarnet District Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.

Efforts by the press to get information from the school head teacher who had accompanied the body to the mortuary however proved futile as they remained tight-lipped.
