IEBC to pay creditors

Kenya: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will in the next few days start settling bills that have been pending since the 2013 General Election.

The National Treasury has approved Sh2 billion for settling the validated outstanding bills following a request by IEBC, said a statement issued yesterday by acting CEO Betty Nyabuto.

However, the National Treasury said the funds will be released in tranches of Sh500million starting today.

"IEBC has been engaging both the National Treasury and the creditors on the issue of the delayed payments... As a public entity, it still relies on the National Treasury for funding," said Nyabuto.
