Unknown gunmen drive into Laikipia Air Base gate, shoot at soldiers injuring one

Nanyuki, Kenya: Police in Nanyuki are investigating an incident where unknown people in a car opened fire at Kenya Air Force soldiers.

Laikipia County Police Commander Angelus Karuru said the attackers escaped immediately after engaging the officers in a shootout.

The attack occurred on Thursday evening at Missile Depot Southern Gate, which leads to the highly guarded Laikipia Air Base. The base is known for harbouring the dreaded Fighter Five (F5) jets and other assorted war planes.

The Southern Gate is situated in a remote location, about 15 kilometres from Nanyuki town.

During the attack, a sentry suffered a bullet injury in his right thigh.

"One of the sentries suffered a soft tissue injury after a bullet fired by the attackers bruised his right thigh," said Karuru.

Detectives who rushed to the scene found the vehicle that was used by the attackers.

"The vehicle had 71 empty containers. There were also blood- stains and we suspect one of the attackers was injured in the shootout," Karuru added.
