Three robbery suspects shot dead in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: Three suspected thugs were Thursday shot dead and stolen valuables recovered from them in Waithaka area, Nairobi.

The three and two others had attacked a group of foreign tourists and robbed them of their mobile phones, golden rings, laptops and unknown amount of money.

The police were alerted at about midday and launched a hunt on the gang. Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue said the officers killed the three along Kamwende Road in the area and recovered part of the stolen valuables and a car they were using.

The other two escaped on foot and a hunt on them is ongoing.

"They had attacked the visitors and robbed them of their cash and valuables before we were alerted and pursued them," said Kibue.

He added a laptop that had a tracker helped them to trace the gang as they escaped into a homestead in the area.

On Wednesday, a suspected thug was killed and two including a guard arrested at a private residence after a dramatic chase.

Police say the thugs were riding on two motorbikes and had tried to rob a businessman and a petrol station in the area before police were alerted and launched a hunt.

Police said the gang had an AK47 rifle, which they threw into a manhole and a search for it did not bear fruits.
