Kenya MPs push for more allowances, security

NAIROBI, KENYA: MPs are now calling for the revision of their sitting allowances. At a 'Kamukunji' on Tuesday, they also took issue with the Parliamentary Service Commission over late payment to staff.

An MP who attended the meeting said they were angry that they do not have parking space at Parliament Buildings. They also said that they do not feel safe when moving from Parliament Buildings to their adjacent Continental House and in Harambee Sacco Plaza offices.

They told Speaker Justin Muturi that the Sh5,000-sitting allowance was little. Committee chairpersons get Sh15,000 and also get Sh100,000 as responsibility allowance. It is also understood that they vowed to amend the pension laws to remove the two-term minimum requirement as a qualification for pension.
