Kenyan man who wanted to 'marry' Bill Clinton's daughter passes on

Baringo, Kenya: A Kenyan man, who surprised the world 14 years ago when he offered former US President Bill Clinton 40 goats and 20 cows for his daughter’s hand in marriage has died.

Godwin Chepkurgor, 45, was on Friday evening killed by a stray elephant at Ol-debes village in Mogotio, Baringo County.

Residents said the father of four was busy photographing a herd of elephants when he was ambushed, chased and crushed by another jumbo which was trailing him from behind.

At the scene of the incident, broken tree branches and huge stones smeared with human blood and flesh indicated the struggle he underwent, prior to his death.

A team of Kenya Wildlife service (KWS) rangers guarding the animals fired severally into the air forcing the angry jumbos to retreat thus allowing for a rescue mission.

However, Chepkurgor succumbed to his injuries at at Rift Valley General Hospital in Nakuru.

In 2002, Chepkurgor caused a stir while in college when he wrote and dispatched a letter to Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton informing them that he had an interest in their daughter.

In 2006, few years after his cheeky proposal, Chepkurgor married his college mate, Grace Chepkurgor, at Kabarak University Chapel on December 2.

They were blessed with four children but he always promised friends to keep tabs on Chelsea Clinton.

Although many viewed the matter as simple, Mrs Clinton while on a visit to Kenya in 2009 promised to pass the message to her daughter.

In another interview with renowned CNN host Fareed Zakaria in the same year, Mrs Clinton termed the offer as ‘not bad” but added that her daughter was her own person.
