Senator Omar claims Jubilee targeting CORD counties

MOMBASA, KENYA: A senator has claimed Jubilee was sabotaging counties under Cord coalition in a bid to win them over in the next general election amid claims that police plan to question aides of key CORD leaders in the area over recent violence in the Coast.

Mombasa senator Hassan Omar Sarai claimed on Sunday that coastal counties were among such regions because their economies have been disrupted as tourism was in its lowest point level.

"There seems to be a ploy by Jubilee to sabotage Cord counties in the country," Sarai claimed.

He criticised Mombasa county commissioner Nelson Marwa for claiming that Cord could be behind a recent attack at Soweto in Likoni, Mombasa county.

Speaking at the weekend when he presided over a harambee in aid of the Soweto attack victims, Sarai expressed fear that Marwa could be pushing for the arrest of a prominent Cord politician in the same way as Lamu governor Mr Issa Timamy over Mpeketoni attacks.

"Marwa has broken the law severally including his shoot-to-kill order and risks being taken to court after the Jubilee regime. He has politicised security and has no respect for county leadership," Sarai said.

Mr Marwa has recent differed publicly with Mombasa governor Hassan Joho who is currently outside the country and accused Cord of being behind the Soweto village gun attack where three died and scores of others injured.
