Fleeing suspect drops grenade, rifles

Police in Kwale County yesterday recovered a hand grenade and three AK47 magazines loaded with 78 round of ammunition at Mkwajuni Village, Mazumalume Sub-location from a fleeing suspect.

The items, which included a pair of police shoes, two mobile phones, a wig, sun glasses and a torch were found in the house of Hamis Nguta.
Police however later managed to arrest Nguta, who they said will be charged with harbouring the suspect.

Kwale County Commissioner Evans Achoki said the terror suspect had been in the village from Tuesday last week.
"The locals said they found the man suspicious because even though he was a Muslim, he never accompanied them to the mosque for prayers. He spent most of his time in the house," Achoki in a phone interview with The Standard.
Though the county commissioner did not want to associate the incident with terror until investigations have been finalised, said it was a breakthrough in the fight against crime in the area.

A search for the other suspect who escaped narrowly with a gun has been launched.
