Champs Navy held as military games kick off at Kahawa

Hosts Kahawa Garrison drew 0-0 with Laikipia in their pool B match of the armed forces Chief of General Staff Golden Cup in Nairobi.

Kahawa had lost 2-0 to Second Brigade in the opening match and badly needed a win to put back on track their hunt for honours.

Although they took the early initiative by pegging their visitors in their own backyard, the former premier league side could not convert the numerous chances that went their way.

Christopher Ndege was a threat from the left flank, but his crosses went begging if not Laikipia goalkeeper, Oscar Ndege, plucking them from the air.

Garrison coach Tom Odhiambo said he would employ another tactic to ensure he win the two remaining matches so as to sail the team to the semi finals.

"It was a well fought game but I will go for an attacking game this time round in our meet with Artillery and Engineers Brigade.

"I have seen that the 3-5-2 pattern I was using has not been prolific," Odhiambo said.

Defending champions Kenya Navy was on a low start as the Fourth Brigade held them to a barren draw.

The tight but thrilling match could have gone either way, as both teams were equal to task in the entire match. Navy coach, Erick Shume, said they would work to retain the title.

"Football is like military and the best prepared team wins, and so I wont be lying to say that we expect to retain the trophy," said Shume.

Shume added that only the Second and Fourth Brigade stands between them and the Golden Cup.

In other matches, Moi Air Base edged Department of Defense (Nairobi region) 1-0.Vincent Otieno scored the lone goal in the match.

Artillery Brigade and Engineers Brigade also ended into a 3-3 draw.
