  Shylocks increasingly became the avenue for access to quick emergency funding as the formal financial institutions became distant to the needs and concerns of the common man. It takes up to two weeks to process the simplest of loans, this can be a life time to someone with an urgent need such as a sick family member or even just plain broke.
