Maseno School continued with its dominance in KCSE in Nyanza Province and produced the second best overall student nationally.
Equally in the national category Nyanza Province posted good results producing four students in the top 20 nationally and 11 students in top 100 out of which five were from Maseno. Others school with students in top 100 nationally included Mbita, Rapogi Maranda, Kanga and Sawagongo. Similarly new academic giants emerged. They include Mbita Boys, Sawagongo, St Francis Rangala and St John’s Nyamagwa Boys that produced students in the top 20 in the province. Again, Maranda, Kanga and Rapogi equally performed well in the last year’s KCSE coming second, third and fourth respectively in the province. St Mary’s Yala, Kisii High and Cardinal Otunga once academic giants are fast receding to the periphery and managed a paltry of four and one each in the top 100 students in the region respectively.
But as usual, girls from the region failed to produce a top student in the national category. Lwak produced two students in the province’s top 100 while St Francis Rang’ala, Ng’iya and Asumbi managing one each. In North Eastern, Mandera High School produced five out of the top ten students in the province. Garissa High School scooped three.
Nothing to celebrate
But there was nothing to celebrate in other schools like Iftin, Sankuri, NEP Girls and Young Muslims as results of some of their candidates were cancelled.
In Nairobi, Alliance Boys High School exhibited its prowess by dominating more than half of the top 100 positions in Central Province. The national school produced 56 students in the top 100 positions with its sister school Alliance Girls also scooping 10 positions.
Mang’u High School followed with an impressive performance that saw it getting 15 positions in the top 100 positions in the province.
Mang’u also produced the best candidate nationally.
Despite the domination of the top chart by boys, Loreto High School Limuru and Bishop Gatimu Ng’andu Girls of Nyeri also sneaked a number of students in the first 100 top candidates in the province.
St Anne’s Secondary School Lioki achieved the same feat. Little known Baricho High School in Kirinyaga surprised many with its first candidate Muriuki Fredrick Kinyua taking position 16 in the province.
Kagumo High School in Nyeri, a provincial institution shared the spoils with its neighbour, Nyeri High School.
The North Rift region rose to claim top places nationally with Moi Girls High School and little known Wei Wei Secondary School in West Pokot producing the best female student Nchunge Grace Wambui and the sixth student overall.
The region produced seven of the top ten best candidates in the province. North Rift scooped the top position in Rift Valley for the second year running.
Moi Girls had four of its students among the top 10 girls nationally and 14 in the top 100 list, making it the best performing girls’ school in the country.
Wei Wei Secondary School in Sigor constituency, West Pokot, pulled a surprise when it produced the leading student in Rift Valley Province, Wekesa Edwin Magema, who scooped position six nationally.
Wekesa shared the top 10 list with students from academic giants Alliance, Mangu, Maseno, Starehe and Lenana High schools.
