Cabinet ministers William Ruto and Samuel Poghisio have accused the Government of applying double standards on the Mau issue and vowed not to rest until the people are compensated and resettled.

The two faulted the Government over the eviction and reiterated their position to fight for the plight of affected people.

The ministers said the Mau issue was a real problem and not a creation of political interests, as alleged by some of their Cabinet colleagues.

Mr Poghisio said the suffering that the children from Mau were undergoing at the roadside was regrettable and asked the Government to resettle them.

Mr Ruto castigated Wildlife Minister Noah Wekesa for branding the evictees as criminals notwithstanding their sufferings.

"We will not rest until these people are resettled and given necessary financial support," said Ruto.

The Eldoret North MP said the Government was insincere in the evictions after overlooking what was resolved in the Cabinet and Parliament.

He said: "Cabinet and Parliament resolved settlers be compensated and resettled, and my question is what happened?"

He said it was sad for a minister to brand innocent Kenyans criminals after displacing them from their settlement.

"Some people are happy seeing others suffer in the open and starving. The eviction is inhumane and illegal," argued the minister.

The ministers were speaking at Kitale ASK showground during a funds drive in aid of St Luke Anglican Church of Kenya.

The Agriculture Minister termed the Government's action as irresponsible and infringing on people's rights.

"These leaders supporting the eviction are people who have never slept hungry and in the open without a blanket," Ruto added.

MPs Eugene Wamalwa (Saboti) and Joshua Kuttuny (Cherangany), who also spoke at the function, echoed their sentiments.
