by Titus Too
The Government will hire 4,220 nurses on contract to promote preventive healthcare at district levels.
The Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation will recruit 2,960 enrolled community nurses and 1,260 registered community health nurses next month.
The ministry advertised the vacancies in the media on Friday, stating every constituency will be allocated 20 slots.
The nurses will hired on a three-year contract under the Government Economic Stimulus Package.
Prospective candidates are expected to channel their applications through district commissioners’ offices. Hiring of the nurses is expected to enhance service delivery in the sector that has faced shortage of staff in public health facilities.
There have been complaints of staff shortage in the health facilities and most health centres, constructed mainly through CDF, are understaffed.
Upgrade facilities
This comes at a time the ministry is planning to upgrade rural health facilities.
The ministry has given districts and constituencies up to the end of this month to forward names of health centres they want upgraded.
