The first half of the match at Furaha Stadium Muhoroni, which Chemelil used as their home ground after banning of Chemeil Sports Complex, was closely-contested.

After the break, a recharged Chemelil playing the repeat match under Zedekiah ‘Zico’Otieno, notched the lone goal in the 47th minute through Wycliffe Odhiambo following spadework by Argwings Mukita, John ‘Kangi’ Mwangi and Joseph Mwangi.

Odhiambo came close to extending Chemelil’s lead in the 55th minute with only Agro custodian, Fredrick Onyango, to beat, but shot wide after latching on Mukika’s free-kick.

Ruffled Agro, who are staring at the relegation, counter-attacked in vain through Humphrey Alemba, Gordon Okoth and Calvin Ochieng’ who played outstandingly in the midfield.

Large number

The rest of the second half, that witnessed a large number of anti-riot policemen after the September 7 match aborted due to lack of security, was ill-tempered with players from both sides being shown the yellow card by centre Nairobi referee, Calvin Alusa.

Agro coach, Fredrick Ochieng’ admitted the team had no mathematical chance of surviving relegation after losing to Chemelil. He blamed the defeat on wasted first-half chances by his players.

Otieno said Agro needed to win by six goals to escape relegation on goal aggregate advantage against Coast side Bandari, who are facing similar fate.

Stars’ failure

Meanwhile, Football Kenya Limited (FKL) has been urged to stop crying over Harambee Stars’ failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations next year.

Former Coast Stars technical director, Aariff Baghazal, on Wednesday urged FKL to set up youth football structure.

"Let us stop crying over spilt milk and come up with an elaborate structure to improve football standards," said Baghazal in a statement.

He said teams that have qualified for the continental show in Angola and the World Cup finals in South Africa have sound youth programmes.

"Ivory Coast, Ghana and Nigeria are good examples with solid youth programmes and Kenya needs to borrow a leaf from them," said Baghazal.

He said Kenya needed to stop blame game and get their heads together to put in place youth programmes.

"Kenya has talented footballers but most of them have not been given a chance to exploit their talent," said Baghazal.
