Harambee Stars stand-in coach Twahir Muhiddin says he intends to win the Cecafa trophy as a consolation to the team after missing a chance to play in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

"I will not underrate any team in the Cecafa tournament and my boys would go flat-out to win the trophy as a reward to Kenyans who rallied behind us during our 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches," said Muhiddin told FeverPitch in Mombasa on Wednesday.

"I’m optimistic Harambee Stars would win the Cecafa trophy which has eluded Kenya for more than six years. All teams would be looking forward to beating Harambee Stars by the virtue of being the hosting team," said Muhiddin.

He said the squad that played Nigeria last Saturday was in its top form and he would reinforce it with six call-ups. He said only Musa Otieno, Victor Mugabe, Peter Opiyo, Dennis Oliech and Emmanuel Ake would be missing in the team which played Super Eagles last weekend.

The coach said he would consult with Team Manager Edward Oduor before announcing his final team.

He said the team moves to residential camp on Sunday evening with intensive training starting the following day ahead of the tournament, which runs from November 28 to December 13 in Nairobi and Mumias.

He said he would pick his captain for the tournament between Pascal Ochieng’ of KCB and Gor Mahia’s Julius Owino who are among the senior players in the team.

Eleven countries have confirmed participation in the tournament including Zambia and Zimbabwe as guest teams.

Meanwhile, Bandari left Mombasa on Wednesday afternoon for their crucial match against Mathare United on Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium.

Coach Yusuf Chippo said his players were ready for United.

Kenya’s economy is on the road to recovery

Kenya’s economy is on a positive growth trajectory. That is the judgment from leading fund management firms, investment banks, economists and the World Bank. Although the estimated GDP growth of between 3-4 per cent is still below the country’s potential, when benchmarked against competing economies in East Africa, the economy is expected to make a strong recovery this year.
