Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has said the draft law should allow voters to elect the President who will enjoy powers of the office.
"I will make my submissions to the committee on issues regarding the constitution," said Kalonzo.
He said Kenyans cannot trust Parliament to elect their leaders, adding the issue of a powerful Prime Minister and a ceremonial President was contentious.
"We must have popularly elected leaders," said Kalonzo.
Running mate
He welcomed provisions for a Deputy President, who will be a running mate of the presidential candidate.
"This will end what has been labelled by some as shortcuts to the Vice-President’s seat," said Kalonzo.
He said the contentious issues in the draft were known.
Kalonzo was speaking to reporters at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre after the launch of the Harmonised Draft Constitution by the Committee of Experts. He challenged politicians to avoid acrimony during the 30 days the draft will be under public scrutiny.
