The Sunday morning attack in Isiolo, which left 11 people dead and scores injured, must be condemned.
When will Isiolo residents ever enjoy the peace they deserve? In whose interests are Internal Security Minister George Saitoti and officials in the Provincial Administration serving?
Five of those killed in the latest attack were police reservists. Where were the police, the dreaded GSU and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit when innocent Kenyans were butchered in broad daylight?
And the fact the incident took place just metres away from a military camp is astounding.
In the past, the Government moved swiftly and contained skirmishes in Mandera and Mt Elgon. Why is Isiolo an exception?
Some say the hullabaloo is due to politics, so when will politicians stop gambling with innocent lives?
Prof Saitoti remains noncommittal even when bullets are traded for food, people use AK-47 rifles like walking stick and brush shoulders with Government security personnel with impunity.
The buck must stop somewhere. This madness must cease before more lives are lost.

Isiolo residents have endured some of the most unique internal security problems in the country’s history.
On Sunday, eleven people were killed a few metres away from the gates of a Government security camp.
In the past six months, 75 people have been killed while looking after their livestock, and thousands of camels, cows, sheep and goats have been stolen.
We know part of our problem is the poor quality of leadership, but area MP and Livestock Development Minister Mohamed Kuti is wrong to blame Prof Saitoti for the insecurity.
Just like several other regions, the state of affairs in the district is dire so Mr Kuti should stop using public resources to create rifts between the residents and Government by always claiming the State is the problem.
Our MP is a Cabinet member and we are asking him to take full responsibility for the Government’s (in)actions and provide leadership.
We want the ‘Professor of Mathematics’ to visit the region and hear our views on how the Government could help resolve this issue once and for all.
