A case against three policemen charged with murder has been transferred to Nairobi for security reasons, Assistant Deputy Public Prosecutor Patrick Gumo told the High Court in Nairobi.
This is a case in which four officers who were attached to the CID’s Special Crime Unit dubbed ‘SPIV’ are accused of shooting to death three people.
"It will not be safe to have the case heard in Nakuru," Mr Gumo told trial judge Fred Ochieng.
The trial against Police Constables Mohammed Samana, Gona Karissa and James Leleruk has already started while the fourth officer Joel Ngare is still at large.
A warrant of arrest against the officer was issued in August when his colleagues pleaded not guilty to the murder charges in court.
The charge sheet states that on July 26 at Eldama Ravine/Mogotio Rd junction in Koibatek District, they jointly murdered businessman Mohammed Imman Kassim, Mr Adan Bashir Kassim and Mr Sammy Kiyech.
On Monday, a victim of the carjacking incident that allegedly triggered the shooting of the three, Mr Francis Gitau Mwangi narrated his ordeal at the hands of his attackers to the court.
Hearing continues next year.
