MPs to vet road contractors, says House chairman

A parliamentary committee has expressed concern over the rate at which road construction projects stall midway. On Saturday, the Committee on Implementation chairman Jamleck Kamau said stalled pro

jects cost the Government billions of shillings annually. The Kigumo MP was speaking at Marie area after 14 road construction companies toured the Kaharati-Kangari-Njiiri road being constructed at a cost of Sh1.7 billion.

Accompanied by Kigumo DC Omar Salat, Kamau said Parliament would be vetting companies before they are awarded contracts. "Some of the companies have been abandoning projects half way. This leaves the Government in desperation as it looks for other contractors to complete the projects," he said. Salat said the Government is committed to ensure projects are completed within the deadlines.
