Kenya Civil Servants Welfare Association has embarked on a project to build houses for its 63,000 members.
Secretary-General Francis Ngarioko said the project, which targets middle and junior level civil servants, would kick off next year.
"We have partnered with a Chinese company to build modern houses in three provinces during the first phase," said Mr Ngarioko.
He said about 900 housing units would be built in Nakuru, Mombasa and Nyeri.
"We will start with a pilot project in Rift Valley, Coast and Central provinces with 300 units in each one of them," he said.
Addressing journalists in Nakuru, the official said on Thursday Sh5.3 billion would be required for the project.
"The housing units are going to be ultra estates with a shopping complex and a primary school, each civil servant will also get a three-acre piece of land for farming," he said.
Ngorioko said a similar project was almost ready in Nairobi and civil servants would move in next year.
