Residents of Kinyago and Biafra slums in Nairobi blocked a road and protested over an outbreak of cholera.
They claimed it had killed eight people. They barricaded the First Avenue and lit bonfires protesting the alleged disconnection of water supply to the slums by the City Council, which they claimed had led to the outbreak of the disease.
A visit to the slums by The Standard revealed lack of toilets, water shortage and trenches filled with dirty water. Public health officials have ordered for the closure of hotels and banned hawking of food.
Police officers had a difficult time containing the residents
