Exam leakage is a blot on our intergrity

Reports of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams being leaked, and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) denial of available evidence, are disturbing.

The reports are disheartening to parents, teachers and the candidates. KNEC should investigate the claims to instil confidence in candidates as they continue sitting the exams.

Allegations of exam cheating demoralise hard-working students and teachers. Exams and the bodies that administer them are considered sacred worldwide since they are a mark of dignity, morality and integrity of a nation. However, the fact that corruption is finding its way into examination halls dispels this sanctity and raises doubt on the quality of education.

Cheating in exams must end.

It is sad that while Knec has done its best to curb exams’ leakage, unscrupulous people continue to explore new tricks to perpetuate the vice.

It is painful for students to spend four years and have their exam results cancelled due to a few dishonest individuals.

Ministry of Education and Knec should ban students found guilty of cheating from sitting future exams. Individuals who abet the vice should be jailed without the option of a fine.
