With Somali militia entering and leaving Kenyan territory at will and the Migingo Island dispute with Uganda unresolved, on August 5 PointBlank was left in a fit of pique after South Sudan joined the bullying game (Kenya the weakling has no answer to Sudan’s bullying).
The previous week Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang’, accompanied by top Government officials, had been humiliated by Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) soldiers when they were stopped and denied access to the border at Nadapal.
Immigration office
The area has for decades been firmly under SPLA control yet it is undisputed Kenyan territory. Worse still, Immigration offices have remained at Lokichoggio, 25km from the border. Kajwang’ wanted this changed.
This time the Government has taken a carrot and stick approach. While diplomatic talk with South Sudan continues, security bases have been set up in Nadapal, especially to deal with cantankerous Toposa criminals who thrive on cross-border raids. Our hope is that the integrity of all borders will be maintained through such bold moves.
