Clerics in Eldoret have cautioned residents against interpreting crime along tribal lines.

The bishops said in a press conference on Thursday whole communities should not be blamed for isolated criminal activities.

"We hear from all estates about people being attacked through thuggery and victims have been from different communities," said Geoffrey Songok, moderator for Reformed Church of East Africa.

Threaten unrest

The recent killing of a motorbike taxi operator had threatened unrest between communities after the suspects and victims were traced from different communities. The bishops, who included Cornelius Korir of the Catholic Church Eldoret Diocese and Thomas Kogo of the Anglican Church of Kenya challenged the Government to improve security.

"Every community has criminals and every single one should be held accountable," added Songok.
