A team of Ugandan surveyors tasked with establishing ownership of disputed Migingo Island is set to resume the exercise.

East Africa Community (EAC) Minister Amason Kingi said the team, which had disengaged from the survey, would continue with the exercise.

"There were various issues which emerged in the course of the survey that resulted in the parties failing to agree," he explained.

The survey stalled in July after surveyors from the two countries differed on technicalities.

The minister said Ugandans pulled out after disagreeing with their Kenyan counterparts on how far the survey should be carried.

"Some were for the idea of embarking on disputed Migingo alone while others wanted to

Mr Kingi noted the teams disagreed over the mode of erecting new boundary pillars with the Ugandan side refusing to refer to existing documents.

The minister said the return of the surveyors would hasten the conclusion of the process.

"Residents of Migingo want to know their identity and it would be just to complete the survey and settle the dispute," the minister said.

At the same time, Kingi said EAC integration would deal with territorial boundary issues of which residents will not be discriminated against.
