Muslim women in Mombasa have threatened to strip naked on the streets if the Government does not address drug abuse by youth.
Speaking to the press at Mvita Chief’s office, Coast Women Lobby Group leader Farida Rashid Tolle gave the Government a seven days ultimatum to meet their demand.
"We are tired of seeing youth suffering due to effects of drugs. Our leaders should support us in this quest as we seek justice," she said.
They stressed on the need for leaders to co-operate and stem out the vice that has rendered thousands of youth useless.
The women blamed the Government for not putting measures in place to ensure drug barons are apprehended.
"Everyone knows who the drug peddlers are but none is taking action against them while our youth continue to waste away; it is serious and no one is safe," said Tolle.
Most affected
Condemning the rampant drug abuse in the area, the women said they are most affected, as they have to fend for their addicted sons and husbands.
The lobby urged Imams and other women to join them citing lack of rehabilitation centers as a contributing factor to the growing number of addicts.
