Law to protect farmers underway

A Bill seeking to end exploitation of tea farmers by brokers at the Port of Mombasa will be tabled in Parliament soon, Agriculture Minister William Ruto has said.

 He said farmers toil to meet the cost of farm inputs and get nothing in return because they are ripped off by middlemen. The minister was speaking on Sunday at the Nandi Agricultural Show in Kapsabet. He said his ministry had set aside Sh5 billion to buy subsidised fertiliser and seeds for farmers ahead of next year’s planting season.
