No one had seen it coming, not even Debarl himself. He had played his cards right since the show started and was even tipped to win TPF3 competition. But when Debarl was put on probation, his fate was sealed.
Debarl was evicted from Tusker Project Fame (TPF3) last Saturday. Viewers protested strongly some even jammed TPF3’s Facebook page debating how the show had lost credibility. The anger degenerated into insults.
Just why did Debarl exit cause uproar? First, Ng’ang’a, the other Kenyan contestant who has been on probation week-in-week out has been a weaker contestant. His survival to this end has been questionable. He looks more of a comedian than a singer and at this level of the show, no Hemedi-gimmicks should be entertained. Ng’ang’a should have gone. But then again, this is a game and Ng’ang’a’s survival antennae remains.
There was another shocker too. Having come from probation and smelling victory just two weeks away, on Sunday evening, Alpha brought the roof down singing his own composition.
The Rwandan reggae peace song was moving. It stole the audience’s hearts. Alpha gave it his all. The crowd gave him thunderous applause and a standing ovation. And the judge’s verdict was "excellent"
"Alpha, I always told you that (reggae) is your genre. Alpha means number one. Now, you are number one," praised the perenially critical judge, Ian.
As Alpha was taking the game to the next level, the untouchable Patricia who still remains one of the favourites to win the competition was on her way to probation — for the first time. That was the other shocker of the weekend.
There is only one more week before the curtains fall. The remaining contestants, even those who are on probation, have their entire focus on the money. With this in mind, I would rather evade the debate on who among the contestants on probation deserves eviction. Probably, a prediction of the final Sunday outcome would be more ideal.
My initial prediction of the final four initially had Patricia, Alpha, Debarl and Leah with Patricia and Alpha topping the chart. But with Debarl out, Karoline now stands a strong chance.
This is the point where voting numbers matter most. A line up with two Ugandans, one Kenyan and one Rwandese might just see the Uganda vote split giving advantage to Patricia or Alpha. But above all, Tanzania voters may just provide the swing vote and determine the eventual winner.
