Kenya Volleyball Federation League leaders General Service Unit (GSU) hammered Stima Eldoret 3-0 sets during the Odhiambo Ogol tournament in Kisumu.
The paramilitary side playing in Pool E yesterday decisively bagged the first set 25-8 in the competition featuring 32 teams at Kisumu Polytechnic venue. The event also marked the sixth leg of the national league.
GSU faced feeble resistance from Stima Eldoret in the second set before overcoming their opponents 25-14 and marching on to wrap up the third set 25-12.
In Pool C of the men’s match, Orange beat Maseno University 3-1 sets after overcoming an initial 22-25 loss. Orange recovered their poise to narrowly win the second set 25-22, extending their lead to 25-6 and 25-16 in the third and fourth sets.
Coastal outfit
The tournament saw Naivasha-based outfit Sher Karuturi wallop Jacaranda 3-0 sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-15) in Pool D, while Division One campaigners, Posta Nairobi, whitewashed Athi River-based Blue Triangle 3-0 sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-20).
Another Naivasha-based side Homegrown beat Coastal outfit Stima Mombasa 3-1 sets (25-15, 25-18, 20-25, 25-20) as Kenya Airports Authority humiliated hosts, Kisumu Polytechnic, by 3-0 sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-10).
In the women’s category, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) floored Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) by 3-1 sets (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21).
The tournament was preceded by the sixth leg of the national league on Friday. GSU hit Kenya Prisons 3-0 sets (25-21, 32-30, 25-20) in a men’s Division One match, while KCB pipped Homegrown 3-2 (28-26, 12-25, 20-25, 25-25, 18-15).
Other league matches saw Orange silence Administration Police Training College 3-0 sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) as Posta Nairobi edged Kakamega Prisons 3-2sets ( 28-25, 16-25, 25-25, 19-9, 25-10).
