There is simmering discontent between workers of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and management of the Port over lack of bonus payments in the last Financial Year.
The workers are angry that despite having posted a massive Sh5.3 billion in profit, the Government was yet to sanction any bonus payments to them.
Huge profits
Dock Workers Union General Secretary Simon Sang said while KPA board had sanctioned bonus pay to employees, the Transport Minister Chirau Mwakwere was yet to approve the bonus payment.
A source said the board had recommended that each employee would get a bonus of Sh40,000 regardless of their position as a way of motivating them.
Sang said workers deserved a bonus as a reward for their effort that showed in the way of huge profits. He said the union would seek audience with Mwakwere over the issue in Nairobi this week.
Sang said in the past, workers were paid a bonus equivalent to their salary if the corporation met its set target.
