Laety

Pulse: What do you think of Avril?

Laety: Avril is cool, has good ideas, but I don’t like the kofia thing. What is she hiding — kipara perhaps? Let’s see the beautiful eyes she says she has.

P: If you got into a physical fight with Avril who do you think would win and why?

L: I never lose, atarudi home singing, Oh Mama.

P: What is the dumbest thing you have ever done in the name of love?

L: I tattooed the initials of a guy’s name on my body. I felt so stupid when it didn’t work. And removing the initials was a painful process.

P: Have you had an embarrassing moment while onstage?

L: I was embarrassed when my pants tore while doing a dance move. I made the best out of it and convinced the audience that it was part of the show.

P: If you found your man red handed with another woman what would you do?

L: I will set him free, then niombe namba ya mwingine.

P: What is the worst fashion mistake you made?

L: I wore a dotted bubble dress which was part of a costume for my act.

P: You seem to love fashion, what fashion trends put you off?

L: The fashion trend I hated was the metallic jeans that looked like iron-sheets and the feathered hairbands. The list is endless.

P: Would you date a fat or a slim man and why?

L: I would date both thin and fat guys, but if he is fat he should be physically fit and healthy.

P: What is the naughtiest thing you have ever done?

L: Oh! One time my bro refused to buy me soda, so I emptied the one litre Fanta orange he had bought for his guests/friends and filled the bottle with orange juice. His friends dissed him. Well, now he knows who did it. Sorry bro!

P: Ever had a bad hair day, tell us what happened?

L: I had a weave and I decided to go to the saloon for wash and blow-dry, the lights went off just when we had started blow-drying and my hair was wet. It was late and I was on my way to a show, even Michael Jackson on a bad hair day looked better.

P:If Avril stole your boyfriend what would you do to her?

L: If Avril stole my man! I’m not violent, but she would know why watu wananiogopa. This time round she will go back home crying, Oh daddy!

P: If you were Avril what would you do differently?

L: I would quit auto-tune and use it only when necessary.

Avril

Pulse: What do you think of Laety?

Avril: I’ve met her once before and I think she is an okay person.

P:If you got into a physical fight with her today who do you think would win and why?

A: Ha! Ha! A catfight! I hate those fights because they tend to degrade women so much. Plus I hate violence but I have to brag, I’ve been trained in the martial arts (karate) kiasi, you know! So I would probably either walk away to avoid the fight in the first place (not cowardice but grace), or involuntarily defend myself when push comes to shove.

P: What is the dumbest thing you have ever done in the name of love?

A:I had really saved up some money for so long, but in order to impress some guy for his birthday, I used the money to buy him an expensive present, something I regret till today. The guy ended up dumping me. The things we do for love or is it infatuation?

P: Have you had an embarrassing moment while onstage?

A: During the Morgan Heritage concert when I made it to the stage ready for a crazy performance and instead of the DJ playing my performance track he started playing something completely different.

P: If you found your man red handed with another woman what would you do?

A: I would ensure that he notices me watching what he is doing and then make a more dramatic exit. Then I would delete his number from my phone, switch off my phone as I walk away very fast, get home and cry. I would later work hard at forget him.

P: You seem to love fashion, what fashion trend puts you off?

A: The Mohawk. Everybody is doing it! As much as I appreciate the fact that people are embracing art today more than they did, the Mohawk looks best on people with long faces and not on people with round faces. When one has a round face he or she ends up looking like a parrot.

P: What is your worst fashion mistake you or a fashion you followed that did not suit you?

A: That would probably be trying to clash colours. I love colour coordinating and I really work at making sure that my colours all go, but there was this time I felt like trying the new clashing colours trend and it went terribly wrong. Will never do that again unless under proper guidance.

P: Would you date a fat or a slim man?

A: It depends on the individual’s personality. I hate to be prejudicial but I like being around a person who takes keen care of his health and watches his weight.

P: What is the naughtiest thing you have ever done?

A: I have done so many naughty things but the highlight of it all is when I secretly organised a birthday party in school and sneaked in a cake, food, soda, and music.

It was a very strict convent school in Uganda with a principal who was a nun. We thought we had gotten away with it until we came back the following term to be grilled by our school disciplinarian.

P: Ever had a bad hair day what happened?

A: My hair is manageable but there was a time I had a fringe to cover my forehead. I later had an idea of gelling the fringe with holding gel thinking it would hold at the front. Now since I didn’t have a flat iron you can only imagine the mess I had on my forehead. It had curled up in the most ridiculous way and I had totally spoiled my week’s blow out and had to wash it off.

P: If Laety stole your boyfriend, what would you do to her?

A:I never blame the chick in these situations but I would definitely not respect her if that happened. It’s a sign of not being content with what you have and kunyemelea ya mwenzako.

P: If you were Laety what would you do differently?

A: That would probably be in choosing the people to work with, a team that totally believes in her one hundred percent. The girl has a voice and the looks to match so if directed well, the potential she has would really flourish.

Ed’s Verdict:

Both girls can sing but on this issue the bootilicious Avril is too sweet to express her karate skills athough she organised a secret bash while Laety is not as shy. Laety wins by a narrow margin of six to five.
