A taskforce to spearhead police reforms will for the second time summon Police Commissioner Hussein Ali and Administration Police Commander Kinuthia Mbugua.

The team, which has completed hearings, intends to recall Ali and Mbugua to give further information.

It is currently working on a progress report in Naivasha.

"When working on such a report, issues emerge that require clarification. Therefore, we have to recall the two officers to furnish us with more information," said a source within the taskforce.

Added the source: "We realise there are gaps that need to be filled so that we can compile a comprehensive report".

The taskforce, the source said, has also asked the United Nations office of Drugs and Crime to give them a presentation. It is expected to come up with a final report, which would be presented to the President.

Last month, Ali and Mbugua appeared before the taskforce and submitted their recommendations on the best way to transform policing.

The regular police and the AP have recently been at loggerheads over proposals to merge the two entities.

The AP, headed by Mbugua, appeared before the taskforce and pushed to have the merger proposal rejected in favour of an even stronger AP force.

The regular police, headed by Ali, claims the current dual policing system is an obstacle to accountability.
