Twenty top police officers have been shuffled in a major shake-up in all provinces to address the spiralling wave of crime.

The changes that were announced Friday by the Police Commissioner Hussein Ali affected five of the eight provincial police officers.

Coast PPO King’ori Mwangi moves to Western while Eastern’s Jonathan Koskei was transferred to North Eastern in similar capacities.

Deputy Coast PPO Leo Nyongesa has been promoted to PPO and will be deputised by Henry Barmao, who has been moved from police headquarters.

The new Rift Valley police boss is Francis Munyambu who has been moved from Western Province while his deputy will be David Baya.

Long overdue

Maj-Gen Ali retained the Nairobi and Central province bosses.

However, Central Provincial Criminal Investigations Officer Sebastian Ndaru has been moved to Nyanza while Nyanza’s Scavier Mbogo has been transferred to North Eastern in the same capacities.

North Eastern PPO Stephen Chelimo has been moved to police headquarters as the Head of Inspection while Rift Valley’s Joseph Ashmala has been transferred to Kiganjo Police College as deputy commandant.

The Kiganjo Deputy Commandant Alfred Ombaba was moved to police headquarters as deputy director of operations.

The shuffle has also seen Philip Ndolo moved to Eastern as the deputy PPO while the Head of Prosecution in Nairobi Area Pius Macharia has been promoted to deputy PCIO in the command.

Samuel Nyabengi has been named the new Rift Valley PCIO and will take over from Mohamed Amin who was moved to head the Central Bank’s Banking Fraud Investigations Unit (BFIU).

Former director of BFIU Paul Ndambuki has been moved to Coast as the deputy PCIO while Thwere Okello is the new Western deputy PPO. Sinatwa Kitoo has been moved to police headquarters as the deputy director of personnel. The changes, which some of the commanders termed as long overdue, came at a time of increasing rate of crime in Nairobi and Central provinces.

Ali announced the changes after meeting top officers Lawrence Mwadime, GSU commandant Mathew Iteere, CID boss Karanja Gatiba and Director of Operations Peter Kavila in his office.
