This year’s Rhino Charge is a full house. Officials said the event to be run on May 31 at a yet-to-be disclosed venue is in its advanced stages.

Drivers will be briefed on May 9 at Braeburn School.

Colin Church, the chairman of Rhino Charge Organising Committee, said entries had come from as far as US and Europe.

The wildest unique off-road sports event has a maximum of 60 vehicles.

Church, who was accompanied by Simon Welland (deputy clerk of the course), John Thuo and Beryl Okundi (PR consultants), announced that the fencing project will be completed this year.

"Although the fence will be completed around September, we shall not discontinue the Rhino Charge because we shall need endowment fund to maintain the fence," he said.

"About 20km are remaining and we shall be through with the project. We have so far raised some Sh700,000 for the 400km fence," said Church.

Competitors drive across brutal terrain to the guard posts designated in the shortest distance within 10 hours. They visit 13 check points scattered over approximately 100 square kilometres of rough terrain.
