The date for the hearing of a case in which a school director is charged with attempted bribery has been set.
Mr Isaac Waithaka Kamunya of Gilgil Hills Academy is accused of offering a Sh70,000 bribe to a Standard Group journalist.
Kamunya allegedly offered Mr Alex Kiprotich the money on March 13, at Stem Hotel, Nakuru to stop him from publishing a story concerning the death of a pupil in the school.
Miss Linda Koech died at the School on July 27, last year, in unclear circumstances.
When the case came up for mention yesterday, Nakuru Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma said it would be heard on April 24. The accused faces another charge that on March 12, through an emissary he offered Sh20,000 to Kiprotich.
The other count stated that on December 1 last year, at the Standard Group offices, Nakuru, he offered an unspecified amount of money to the journalist. The suspect denied the charges and was released on Sh200,000 bond and surety of the same amount.
Warn media
Kamunya asked the court to caution The Standard against publishing prejudicial reports. The magistrate, however, declined to issue the order.
"There is no need to warn the media at this stage but if the need arises you should make an application," she said.
She said whatever had been published would not form part of the trial.
