Housing Minister Soita Shitanda collapsed and was taken to hospital in what the family attributed to his diabetic condition.

The minister’s wife, Betty, who addressed the media at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi, confirmed Mr Shitanda was diabetic and had collapsed at the parking lot of the United Kenya Club on Saturday.

"He had not even parked. He was looking for a parking area when his sugar level went down and collapsed. He was rushed to hospital by good Samaritans," said Mrs Shitanda.

The minister was taken to the emergency section before being wheeled to the Princess Zahra Pavilion at the hospital, where he spent the night.

"He is now fine. Doctors have assured us that all is fine. I think tomorrow (Monday) morning, he will leave hospital," she added.
