Missing journalist found dead in forest

A freelance journalist who was reported missing has been found dead.

Nyamira based Francis Kainda Nyaruri aka MongÕare Mokua went missing a fortnight ago has been found dead in a forest in Rachuonyo District.

Nyaruri's body was found in Kodere Forest.

"His hands were tied, head chopped off and his body had deep cuts," a witness said.

Nyanza acting Provincial Police Officer Larry KienÕg said a team of senior officers had been dispatched to Nyamira to investigate NyaruriÕs suspected murder.

Nyaruri had complained of threats by police officers in relation to articles he had written in a local weekly newspaper.

Nyamira OCPD Njoroge Mwaura said his office had not received any complaints against NyaruriÕs work as a journalist. Nyaruri disappeared on January 16 at around 11am.

He used to contribute to The People Daily, Egesa FM and other weekly newspapers.
