Prime Minister Raila Odinga has instituted investigation into the conduct of North Eastern PC James ole Seriani following a spate of inter clan clashes in Garissa County.
The PM also demanded security appraisal of Garissa County after a section of leaders accused the PC of allegedly fanning inter-clan animosity.
The emergence of the directive comes a day after clashes between two clans in Garissa town left two people dead and several others injured, including a peace committee chairman.
Tension is also building as fears of retaliatory attacks rise despite a heavy security presence.
Land grabbed
In a letter to Internal Security Minister George Saitoti, the PM notes that gross abuse of administrative authority has escalated tension.
The PM was reacting to a letter by Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim, who accused the PC of compromising the security of the province by facilitating land grabbing.
"The PC has consistently used his office to frustrate and expropriate land from all the communities in Garissa except one. The land grabbed by influential personalities include a land owned by Garissa High School," Maalim said in the letter to the PM.
"Late last year, there was full-scale confrontation in Garissa town between two clans that left six people dead. Nobody has so far been charged for the crime whose roots lie in the greed of influential people in the county," Maalim wrote.
