The claim by Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo that there is a plot to kill Prime Minister Odinga should not be taken lightly. Midiwo should not have waited to make the announcement during a burial but should have reported to police first. Being an MP and law abiding citizen, he should not be trying to arouse ethnic hatred by indirectly pointing to political opponents. Let him give all the information he has to police and if investigations prove him wrong, he should be prosecuted.

The allegations by ODM Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo that there is an elaborate scheme to eliminate the Prime Minister should be thoroughly investigated to bring the architects to book and save the country from violence. When such claims are made, it means the national security and stability are at stake.
The issue is more complicated and sensitive as we move to the elections where the stakes are high. Any inflammatory and hate speeches from leaders is bound to trigger unnecessary tension and animosity among the different ethnic communities.
The political environment is highly polarised and quite turbulent and this does not augur well for cohesiveness.
More importantly, the national interests and the future of the country is more important than the parochial and myopic political interests of a few politicians.
The allegations, whether real or imagined, should never ever be taken for granted. We have had political assassinations and that is why any such talk or even imagining it certainly raises deep emotions and political temperatures

Claims by Government Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo that there is a plot to eliminate Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his family ahead of polls are shocking.
Such utterances should not be a move aimed at getting political sympathy from Kenyans ahead of the forthcoming elections and should not be tolerated. Utterances of this nature were evident during the 2005 referendum but the claims were never substantiated.
Police should, therefore, as a matter of urgency make sure that Midiwo is questioned to get the truth about this matter so as not to play politics with lives of Kenyans.
Security matters are sensitive and nobody should try to play with minds of Kenyans for their survival in politics. Leaders should separate politics and security and that Midiwo should ensure he hands over the names and the manner in which the plot to assassinate PM and his family was being executed as he had alleged.
