Pastor on the run over alleged secret marriages

Police are looking for the head of a controversial church said to be marrying off underage girls.

Pastor Ron Zarou, a foreigner, is believed to have gone underground after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

"The pastor has gone underground and our officers are looking for him for questioning in relation to cases of engaging children in the informal school in child labour," said the OCPD, Kioko Muinde.

Deputy PC Wanyama Musyambo last week ordered for immediate investigation into the operations of the Calvary Temple church in Eldoret Town.

The church was also accused of illegally operating an informal school and secretly marrying off underage girls. It has also been accused of being behind breakages of families and forcing followers whose spouses are not members of the church to enter into marriages with other people.

Eldoret Mayor William Rono accompanied by five civic leaders last week demanded that the Government probes the church’s operations.

"If the claims by the parents are true, then the Government should take immediate actions against the church and save families from further breakages," said Rono.

Pastor Zarou recently told the Press that both the church and the school were legally registered.
