AFC Leopards secured their GOtv Shield Cup quarter final ticket after seeing off National Super League side Bidco United 2-1 at Thika Sub-county stadium yesterday.

Samuel Ndung’u and Aziz Okaka scored a goal each to help the 2013 domestic cup winners to book a date with Wazito in the next round of the competition.

David Juma’s late strike could not stop Leopards from joining other Kenyan Premier League sides Tusker, Sony Sugar and Bandari in the last eight.

AFC could have taken an early lead in the fifth minute but Ndung’u and Alexis Kitenge’s attempts missed target by inches.

But it didn’t take long before Ndung’u broke the deadlock with a clinical finish in the 14th minute.

The former Muhoroni Youth man received a fine pass from diminutive Harun Nyakha, comfortably controlled the ball before slotting it past a hapless Bidco goalkeeper Charles Okeyo.

Five minutes later, Bidco captain Augustine Etemesi failed to capitalise on Musa Mudde’s error as his feeble shot went direct into goalkeeper Gabriel Andika’s hands.

On the half-hour mark, Kitenge saw his goal ruled offside before Bidco’s Lazo Simba forced a fine save from Andika.
Leopards could have gone into the break leading by two goals, but Kitenge’s effort slithered across the face of goal.

Bidco came back into the second half a more rejuvenated side with David Juma’s powerful shot saved by Andika two minutes after restart.

Moments later, Leopards were awarded a free kick in a promising position after a foul on Whvonne Isuza but new signing Okaka squandered a rebound from Robinson Kamura’s effort.

Bidco had a chance to draw level in the 68th minute after Juma made a brilliant run on the right flank and delivered perfect cross only for substitute John Walubuka to blast wide.

The Anthony Akhulia’s side was punished immediately by Okaka when the former Ushuru winger latched onto an inviting cross from the right after defensive mix-up to beat Okeyo between the posts.

Ray Omondi could have extended the lead a few minutes after coming on but he was denied by the Bidco custodian in the box.

But after a series of attempts, Juma was finally rewarded in the injury time when he rose high above his markers to head home Heritier Luvualu’s cross.
