Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Division One side Obuya Academy held their nerve to beat Super League Club Kongonis by 14 runs in the ongoing Harilal Memorial Tournament. Not even home support could stop Obuya from humbling their hosts in a match played at Nairobi Club.

Kennedy Obuya batted well for Obuya with 59 not out while Kevin Kimtai made 33 runs off 34 balls to give his side a second victory and enhance their chances of reaching the semi-finals. Eugine Maneno bowled well for Kongonis taking three wickets for five runs in three overs while Martin Mworia and Martin Okoth grabbed one wicket for 14 and 24 runs in four overs respectively.

Chasing 115 runs, Kongonis fell short and were 100 all out. Tony Ochieng registered 36 off 21 whereas Newton Muthee managed 14 off 16. Obuya’s Aveet Desai was Kongonis chief destroyer with four wickets for 19 runs in four overs. Protus Asirigwa and Tom Ochieng took two wickets each for 13 and 15 runs in three overs in that order.

Gymkhana suffered a 77 runs defeat to their ruthless guests Swamibapa in another encounter of the day. Alex Obanda led Swamibapa’s onslaught with 63 runs, Saumil Patel managed 37 while Naman Patel made 22. Lucas Oluoch bowled economically for Gymkhana taking two wickets for 19 in four overs. Harsh Patel also took two wickets for 41 in three overs.

Swamibapa won the toss and elected to bat making 179 for six. When their turn to bat came the homeboys were outclassed and could not match the Swamis with their lead scorer Abdul Najmi making 24 off 30 while Kavi Dosaja (20) and Kran Kaul (13) were second and third on the scorecard. Nehemiah Odhiambo was superb in bowling for Swamibapa taking three wickets for 15 in four overs. Jadavji Bhimji ousted two for 17 in four overs.

In another match played at Gymkhana Super League, champions Stray Lions continued with their impressive form with a 107 runs win over Ruaraka.
