Kenya Defence Forces women team (KDF) came from behind to post a 28-27 win over National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in an entertaining Kenya Handball Federation league match  at Nyayo Stadium yesterday.

With the win, the military side means they have picked a double this season over NCPB as they also emerged victorious in the first leg.

NCPB’s Betty Too top scored for her team with eight goals while team mates Roseline Adhiambo and Fatma Mohamed managed six and five goals.

Euphrasia Mukhasa emerged KDF’s top scorer with seven goals with teammates Phoebe Mureithi and Valine Akoth managing six and four respectively.

The match started on a high with NCPB picking three quick goals against the soldiers by the eighth minute.

By the first quarter, the soldiers were trailing 6-9 with their opponents dominating the proceedings for the better part of the first half executing fast breaks to extend the lead. However KDF came back to score quick goals and take control of the match.

With ten minutes to the break, KDF’s Euphrasia Mukhasa was given two minutes out after a foul on their opponents with her team leading 15-9 which gave NCPB some way into the match as they fought back for a 16-12 lead but failed to cling on the lead allowing their opponents to narrow down the scores after ten minutes of play in the second half.

Feeling the pressure, NCPB sought their first technical time out leading and it worked well as they extended the lead but a minute later they conceded a penalty that was converted to narrow down the scores.

KDF seemed a better side in the second half as they have done for most part of this season and once again showed the initiative.

With five minutes to the last whistle, the soldiers took lead and eventually won the match 28-27.

Meanwhile, domestic champions Nairobi Water will kick off their continental club championship against TKC of Cameroon today in Burkina Faso.
