ODM youth leaders want all MCAs to join in mass protests against IEBC

Teargas as police disperse protesting CORD supporters at the IEBC headquarters in Nairobi

ODM youth in Homa Bay County have threatened to force MCAs to participate in mass protests against IEBC.

The youth led by party youth leader Kevin Ouma said some MCAs were doing very little to help CORD principals in their champion for change in the electoral body.

Ouma said MCAs will be directly impacted if IEBC fails to conduct free and fair elections in 2017.

"Our MCAs need to know that this fight to reform IEBC is for the benefit of everybody. Failure to join us in the demonstration will make us eject them from that assembly," Ouma said.

Addressing journalists in Homa Bay town on Thursday, Ouma insisted there was dire need for concerted effort of all leaders to enhance success in the fight for electoral reforms in the country.

"Homa Bay assembly is an ODM zone hence should be in frontline in the campaign. We need solidarity in this county," he added.

On Tuesday, many MCAs failed to join youth when they held demonstrations in Homa Bay town to IEBC county commissioner’s office.

Those who were present included Kennedy Ondiek (Kibiri), Peter Kaula (Wang' Chieng), Evans Marieba (Gwassi North), Julius Gaya (Central Karachuonyo), Lenox Ochieng' (Kanyamwa Kologi) and Jared Kajomo (nominated MCA).
