Mteja amepatikana: I will never pick calls from my enemies

Council of Governors (CoG) chairman Peter Munya has sworn never to pick calls from Meru leaders who insult him at daytime

Council of Governors (CoG) chairman Peter Munya has sworn never to pick calls from Meru leaders who insult him at daytime, then try to call him in the evening.

MPs Rahim Dawood (Meru town) and Gideon Mwiti Irea (Central Imenti) recently accused the governor of ignoring their calls and blocking their mobile numbers.

Munya however denied he had blacklisted the numbers of his political rivals.

“Honestly, I have not. The truth of the matter is that I have not recently seen a call coming from those making the accusations against me,” he said in Meru.

“If they were really looking for genuine dialogue, they would get it, but they are not,” added the Meru governor.

Mwiti, who is also a member of the Alliance Party of Kenya (Bus party) has accused Munya of ignoring their role in his government.

The CoG boss attributed the fallout between governors and MPs on the latter’s failure to appreciate the changes in the political arising from the 2010 Constitution.

“It used to be that the MP was the only sheriff in town before the 2013 elections.

“What I find amazing is that MPs imagine they have powers to supervise governors, when they are completely unable to oversight the national government,” added Munya.

He said the Meru forum initially excluded MPs, but it could be amended to have them in if that would help in developing the region.
