The Maasai council of elders from Narok County has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta for sacking two Principal Secretaries from the community.

Principal Secretaries John Konchella (East African Community) and Joseph Tiampati (ICT) were left out when the president announced the new lineup on Tuesday.

Led by the council national chairman Hassan ole Kamwaro and vice chairman Kelena ole Nchoe, they accused the Jubilee government of ‘marginalising’ the community after the Cabinet reshuffle.

“While we appreciate the new appointments by the President, we are not happy. For the first time since the three successive governments, the Maasai from Narok have not gotten a Cabinet Secretary post,” said Mr Kamwaro.

Mr Nchoe wondered why the two were axed yet they were not implicated in corruption allegations, saying the community deserved more slots.

“For avoidance of doubt, the two PSs have never been mentioned in corruption scandals,” he said.

At the same time, nominated Environment PS Charles Sunkuli has pledged to transform the ministry.

“I really thank God, the President and his deputy for having confidence in me. If I pass the parliamentary vetting I will use my experience to transform the ministry,” said Sinkuli, who is the Ewaso Ngiro South River Basin Development Authority Managing Director.

He said that he has the necessary experience and attitude to do the job adding that he leaves behind a good legacy at the Authority. Mr Sunkuli who holds an MBA from Maastrich School of Management in Holland replaced Dr Richard Lesiyampe who has since been moved to Agriculture Ministry.

Another PS nominated from the community is Saitoti Torome to the Ministry of Planning and Statistics.
