Sub-Saharan police chiefs meet in Kigali

Kigali, Rwanda: Police chiefs from Sub-Saharan Africa held a high level meeting in Kigali, Rwanda where they discussed how the continent can cooperate and partner to fight crime.

The meeting was a curtain raiser ahead of the 84th Interpol General Assembly Conference that kicks off today. The conference seeks to discuss among other issues terrorism, border security, cyber-crime, drug trafficking, corruption and asset recovery.

The one-day conference under the theme 'Contemporary Policing for a Safer World' will be held under the 4th International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Sub-Saharan Executive Policing Conference.

Johnstone Busigye, Rwanda's Minister for Justice, who opened the conference, said, "This meeting goes beyond borders in building cooperation for sustainable security. It is clear the security challenges we face today are increasingly complex and require collaborative arrangements locally, nationally and internationally to tackle them."

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet was in attendance.
